AFL Masters Qld News item.

Vale Neil Upton (Uppy).

AFL Masters Queensland stalwart from the Sunsine Coast Neil Upton has passed away after a battle with cancer. Neil was a much loved character and strapper for our carnival sides over the years he will be deeply missed.

Neil joined Sunshine Coast Superules in 1998 and since then has been their loyal first aid and strapper, never missing a training run or a game. He was always happy to help out wherever he could, working behind the bar, selling raffle tickets, and even became their treasurer this year upon Marty's passing.

Neil has also been to many national carnivals as a strapper and first aid for QLD and despite getting on in years was always at the grounds from first game to last helping out. Neil is our current AFL Masters Superman of the Year in recognition of the work he has done for masters footy. Neil's love for AFL footy has seen the Maroochydore oval named after him and fittingly, has requested his ashes be scattered over the ground after the last Master's game this year.

RIP Neil Upton, AFL Masters Superman and AFL Sunshine Coast Legend.
